This article/video combo was very interesting to listen to and very inspirational. In the video a couple things she said stood out to me. One of the things was "what are the things you care about?" and another was "what makes you come alive?" The things I care about drive me to live a good fun life and those things make me feel alive. Those two questions connect with each other very closely in my opinions. From the article two quotes that stood out to me were "You want to feel that it serves some purpose greater than a paycheck or a position." and "Having a sense of purpose in your work acts a little like the energy of light." When working you should always feel like you are doing your job for a reason, not just for the money. If you have a good time working, people around you may feed off that energy also. Being a positive spirit at work would be a win for you and everyone around you.

This podcast by Brian Buffini involves him talking to a woman, named Alison Levine, who was on the first women ever to climb Mount Everest. Her story is one everyone should know about, with all she has gone through to reach the top. There were many things I can take from this podcast because of all the obstacles she has jumped to complete her goal. One being just being a woman in general, no one believed a group of women could climb to the top of the tallest point in the world, and she captained that group all the way. Another thing was she was born with health problems and she never let those get in the way of her dreams. One last thing that stood out to me was that no one else she was close with ever was into these kind of activities, but she stayed with it anyway. She did not care what anyone else thought about her because she is a determined woman who will do anything to reach her dreams. It is a way that everyone should live by including myself. I believe it is an awful reality that technology is going to take over most human jobs sooner than later. We, as humans, do not deserve to be just kicked out of the work force, but unfortunately it is the harsh reality. Many workers will soon be out of a job because of a computer. It does not even feel real to think about. I work at Arby's and I feel like it could have a direct impact on where I work, because fast food places are going to start using more and more technology until finally there are no human workers besides maybe one or two. Thank God that my Arby's is very behind the times though, it may be awhile for the tech wave to hit it.
I read the article "Going From Career Back To Calling" by Ted Coiné. The article was about doing what you want to do, not what you are expected to do. That is very important because I do not want to just be miserable my whole life. I want to do something that means something to me, and truthfully I do not even know what I want to do yet. I will figure it out sometime though, as high school begins to wind down.
I also read the article "4 Essentials That Persuade Companies You’re the Expert They Should Hire" by Kimanzi Constable. The four subtopics are all things important to you being hired. The four suntopics are: 1. "A foundation that shows you’re an expert on your topic.", "2. Content on large publications.", "3. Being interviewed on podcasts on your topic.", and "4. They want to see you presenting. ". Those are all huge for a company to choose you, and if you follow those tips there is a good chance you will be hired. After reading the article "13 things you should give up if you want to be successful" I chose three things I should give up and related them to myself:
1)Give up your excuses- I feel like if I stop making excuses and blaming other people I will be way more successful at everything I do. 2)Give up your need to control everything- Other people are going to have to help you/boss you sometimes, it is just the way things work. 3)Give up the short-term mindset- Thinking about the long term with everything you do is very important, the short term is never the solution. “On your last day on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become.” This is a very deep quote, it is saying you are at your best at the time of your death. You realize who/how you should have been your whole life. "Forgive yourself" and "Focus on your tribe" are two topics that stood out to me from this article. They are two important things to focus on after someone puts you down. If you just get over it yourself and manage to not focus on those people, just the people closest to you, you will be fine.
Eleanor's quote speaks volumes to people with low self esteem. She is saying just look at those past mistakes as building blocks to better yourself in the future. Janét Aizenstros' story is very inspirational. She did not enjoy her life so she took initiative and decided to try and remodel her life. With some love, and support she ended up being very well off and met the actual love of her life. After watching the video on Youtube, I went over the eight topics that he discussed and applied them to myself:
"15 Qualities of Mentally tough people" is an article about attributes that people who are strong willed carry throughout life. It is very much worth the read. As I was reading i was thinking about some of these attributes that related to me. Three qualities that I found very important and that I need to improve on were:
"They're confident"- I look at myself as a very confident teenager and I 100% believe that if I did not have as much confidence as I do now, I would not have succeeded as well as I do in school and sports and just life in general. "They embrace change" - This is something I need to improve on. When things change I seem to sometimes not change with them and get caught up in the past. "They limit their caffeine intake"- People who know me well know that I have a pretty serious caffeine addiction, a I know for certain my attitude would change drastically if I did start cutting down on it. I also asked my mom to read the article and tell me 3 qualities that relate to her and 2 that she needs to work on and she gave me these three: "They’re confident"- Like mother, like son am I right? My mother is also a very confident person and it obviously rubbed off on me and helped her get a very great job. "They get enough sleep"- My mom will be the first person to admit she gets little to no sleep on an average night, and it would positively affect her if she slept even just 1 more hour a night. "They exercise"- My mom is not a unhealthy person, but she could easily get into better shape and maybe workout a bit more. The article "How to Carve out Life's Passions" was full of great ways by which I should live life. Finding things I love is very important and if I follow the steps the article told me, I could find my passions. The two that really stuck out to me were "Give it Time" and "Pay the Price." Everything you want in life is not going to come that quick, and you are going to get hurt, take consequence, and be on the short end of some things to earn what you want to.
The article "Why You Should Be a Student of Your Own Life" was a very inspiring one to say the least. There were many points that I was able to relate to in just that short read. Some of the points that related directly to me included:
1.) Basing things off my own experiences. If I don't pay attention to what I have done in the past, both failures and achievements, I may end up repeating them. The achievement aspect of that is not as big of a deal as the failures would be. If I pay attention to everything that has gone wrong in the past, I can fix those mistake in the future. 2.) Basing things off other people's own experiences. I have had friends get in trouble in major ways due to dumb mistakes, either with the school or with the law. Yes, some of these mistakes I would never even dream of doing, but some were just honest teenage mistakes. Learning from others is a big part of succeeding. 3.) Always keep the mind alive. The articles talks about feeding the minds with good information to keep it sharp. Always keeping your mind keen is very important for a student, or anyone for that matter. |
